This collaborative translation workshop will focus on a poem by Turkish poet of Armenian descent, Karin Karakaşlı, to explore themes around the struggle of the mind and body in a complex political and historical context. There is no need to know the language being translated (Turkish in this case): during the workshop, participants receive a literal translation of the poem and information about the work, the poet, the context in which it was written. This methodology allows the participants to have a basis to work on their own version of the poem: a translation that includes their own experience and their own “biography”. The focus of this workshop is on the process and not on a finished work, which allows space for discussion, sharing, trying and learning together.
