LET’S WORK TOGETHER

I work in the cultural (arts, literature, media), education and not for profit sectors, focusing my activities on artistic and literary projects that support anti-racism and the fight against systemic racism, LGBTQ+ voices, freedom of expression, inclusion and diversity as well as equal opportunities for all. Everything I do is fuelled by my values and perspective on the world.

The best way to understand my work is to read and listen to my newsletter and podcast The Attention Span which I have designed to publish independently, creating my own space where I can take the time to reflect, to analyse and to imagine our societies through writing, art and culture.

I have founded my freelance business in 2011 and work under the name Studio Zeytin. As I took on a new role on 1 December 2023 as Advisor for het Cultuurfonds, a private funding organisation in the Netherlands, I now focus solely my freelance activities to work with partners, organisations, publications etc. outside the Netherlands. It is important for me to avoid any conflict of interest and I want everyone working within literature, literary translation and history (the main areas I am advising on for het Cultuurfonds) eligible to apply for funding, to be able to do so.

My focus is on activities that feed into my practice as a writer, literary translator, and artist. These include:

  • (Creative) Writing: this includes poetry, essays, stories and more

  • Literary translation: I am very selective and, now that I can afford to choose, I want to focus a.o. on poetry

  • Making and showcasing my own art (photography, collage, artist books)

  • Interviewing artists and writers whose work I want to be engaged with - this can be in writing, for podcasts and live events

  • Curation of Cultural Programmes: my ambition is not to create events but discourses (you can read more about my vision here)

  • Performance: poetry, spoken columns, essays and more

  • Moderation and Speaking engagements on subjects related to my practice and vision, especially literary translation

  • Delivering and facilitating workshops on creating writing, literary translation, poetry… Here I am interested in supporting and elevating people who have traditionally been excluded from cultural spaces

I am usually open and curious about new ways to engage with people and audiences. I would be happy to further discuss how we can collaborate.

PEOPLE. PARTNERS. CLIENTS…

I work with a wide range of people across countries, most of the time from the culture and not for profit sector, as well as publishing houses and media. I currently work with Poetik Bazaar (20-22 September 2024 in Brussels) and the Poetry Translation Centre in London (new poetry book launched in 01 May 2024 with events following up in June 2024). I am also a board member of the Dutch Writers Guild, Auteursbond.

I have participated in residencies at the Free Word Centre in London (2013), at WAAW in Senegal (2015), at Copenhagen University (2015), at La Contre Allée in Lille (2017), at Lancaster University (2018) and Mine de Culture(s) in the Bassin Minier (2018-20).

Below is a list of the most recent people and organisations I have collaborated with on different projects.

Before I started working as a freelancer in 2011, I worked full time at BOZAR (The Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels) for 4 years and at the British Council in Amsterdam for 3 years.
