WORKSHOPS, CLASSES, MENTORSHIPS, SEMINARS
I run workshops, classes and seminars for children, young people and adults about literature, languages, translation and comics. Below is a list of recent activities. I also prepare tailored workshops and seminars for specific audiences and like collaborating with artists to explore creativity even further.
In 2015, I have created City in Translation – Exploring Urban Spaces through Languages and storytelling, an ongoing practice that has led to partnerships with universities, libraries and publishing houses (including a chapter in a Routledge publication).
In 2019 I initiated the Performative Translators Workshop with the Read My World International Literature Festival, an educational programme for multilingual makers and translators, to translate writers on stage. Unlike an interpreter, the role requires performance and storytelling skills, and the aim isn’t simultaneous translation. Following the success of this pilot, we have grown into the Creative Translators Workshop, in partnership with institutions such as the Dutch Literary Fund and University of Utrecht’s Expertise Literair Vertalen, in order to include all the different types of translation that are needed for a literary festival: performance, text, audio… This way, creating opportunities for work for literary translators and mutlilingual makers beyond the traditional definitions of “translation”, diversifying the profile of who can translate and how.
